Fifty Shades of Grey - E.L. James I avoided this for the longest time, but finally curiosity won out. I checked out the ebook from the library (I would NEVER spend money on it, I know myself too well), and I made it to 22% of the book.

This book is as badly written as I had been led to believe. Repetitive, inane, completely unrealistic, with a wet-blanket, sludgy lump of insecure "heroine" who made me want to punch my own trachea.

About the 22%: when Anastasia's reaction to losing her virginity was "Argh," I LAUGHED for about 5 minutes. Laughed. Aloud. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand back to "real" books.

I've satisfied my curiosity. I can now stop wondering what the fuss is/was about, because I have no idea why or how this captured the popular imagination. I just know that I gave it a chance, which has assuaged my (teenytiny bit of) guilt about pre-judging it without having read any of it.
