I think I liked this book even more than the first one. And I loved the first one!
Aguirre has a way of moving the action along at what feels like a break-neck pace without sacrificing any detail. It's a singular skill, one I envy.
Jax is a great heroine, equally hard and soft, strong and so very vulnerable. A smart-ass with a conscience and burgeoning sensitivity to the feelings of others. As her relationships with the crew deepen; as her body weakens and her resolve strengthens, I love her all the more.
The twists and turns are also handled deftly. Catastrophic events occur, but they never feel artificial. Nothing happens just for shock value or to move the story along. Even the biggest shocks feel organic to the story.
I just love it. I've already purchased and started book three!
